  5. What makes us unique?

At The Independables, we claim that we are unique. That we stand out, make the difference….and so does our competition. Each company differs from the other, in big or small ways. The way they interact with customers, the underlying business model, the way a company treats their employees, their marketing approach. As a company, you incorporate your vision in every aspect of the business and with that, try to stand out compared to your competition. But what makes The Independables unique, why do we think we stand out, what makes us special? With this blog, we explain our uniqueness.

In our approach, we focus on Business Transformations. Most projects are stand-alone projects and loosely connected (or not at all) to the strategy of the organisation. Business Transformations are the enablers for the strategy, which drives the change. Based on the strategic vision, changes will be set in motion to reach the long-term goals, like a structural improvement of margins, the simplification of the IT landscape or the acquisition of a competitor to gain market share. Programmes and projects will be defined to reach these long-term goals. Resulting in high-impact projects for an organisation, special attention needs to be paid to topics like Change Management and Benefits Management. We focus on these strategic projects where the impact for the organisation will be closely linked to the strategic goals. Is that all that makes us unique and makes us stand out of the crowd?

No, of course not, there are other companies that claim to do the same. Another aspect why we think we are unique, is the fact that we operate independently between the project owner and for example a system integrator that supplies project resources. In this way, we are far better positioned to focus on the project goals and deliver within time & budget. Project managers from the customer tend to manoeuvre more delicate between project goals, their ambition and career goals. Being too strict to own personnel, being a-political, can have a negative impact on your next career steps. Project managers from a system integrator have other targets they want to achieve besides the project goals. These often conflicting forces (adding more external resources and thereby increasing costs and complexity) are not beneficial to the customer. As The Independables, we do not pursue a career within the organisation of our customer, so we can be straight in our communication with the focus on the project goals. As a small (but experienced) company, we do not have the goal to add additional resources, keeping the project aligned with goals and within budget. Again, is that all that makes us unique and stand out of the crowd?

As The Independables, we agreed to have a weekly ‘Independence Day’. Not like in America to celebrate on a yearly basis, but a weekly recurring day when we all come together and discuss our ongoing projects. We each present a topic concerning our project, for example risks & mitigations, progress, scope (creep), communication strategies…nothing is off limit. By presenting this to the others, we mobilise the group knowledge on one-hand and also learn from each topic and project. With that, we focus on high-level quality output for the project deliverables and the ability for our team members to learn and grow. This guarantees the customer if he/ she hires The Independables, it is never the project manager only, it is a team and a collective knowledge base to make sure the project goals will be met.

Does that make us unique? We think so! The combination of our focus on Business Transformations, our independent way of working and our recurring ‘Independence Day’ makes us unique, makes us stand out. Does this appeal to you? Let us know, get in contact.

Networked Organisations (part 2)

Networked Organisations

Before we officially started The Independables over a year ago, we created a business plan to think through our services and offering, financials, and of course, our growth model. In that growth model, we, like most people setting up a new organisation, envisioned a...

The success rate of business transformations is low, according to different studies (for example: McKinsey – 27% of transformation projects succeed). There are different success factors (and factors, when not addressed seriously, will cause failures), but what is the...
